the story of the LAB
the LAB
Over 50 years of road safety work
An accident research and biomechanics laboratory that also studies human behaviour. 20 experts from both manufacturers help to make road safety progress every day.
the past
The LAB’s legacy
1954: Creation of the 1st LAB
creation of a physiological and biomechanics lab in an engineering department.
1957: First experiment of alertness
study of driver behaviour, analysis of driving strategies and needs.
1969: Creation of the L.A.B.
creation of the L.A.B. (Laboratory of Accident Analysis, Biomechanics and Human Behaviour).
1974: BRV study vehicle
Basic Research Vehicle (BRV) on passive safety.
1978: Epure safety research vehicle
study prototype designed to protect occupants from frontal and side impacts at up to 65 kph.
1995: PRS
Pre-Prepared Restraints System (PRS) on Megane I with seat belt force limitation.
2001: ESP
ESP on Laguna II and 3rd generation PRS (Adaptive Airbag). In total, over 2,000 patents have been filed for cutting-edge technological solutions (Fireman Access, SD Switch, etc.).
a safer future
The mission: to continue to further reduce the number of victims on the roads. By supporting the development of new technologies, the LAB helps manufacturers to design systems that perform even better.
