Bekumnandi. It’s a Wrap

It's not goodbye, it ’ s ‘ til we meet again as Renault ’ s journey with Netball South African and the Spar Proteas continues beyond the recently concluded Netball World Cup.

It was an exciting time for the country in the year that belonged to women in the top three sports in the country.
The Spar Proteas might have not won the tournament, but they have regenerated the game and managed to uplift the general mood in the country at a time we desperately needed.

Most importantly, they injected hope that the Spar Proteas can become number one.

The tournament had all the emotions of an international sporting event, the drama as the Spar Proteas played their hearts out in front of home support.

Even President of country Cyril Ramaphosa was captured by it all and couldn ’ t contain himself, pledging to build a netball arena during his speech at the closing ceremony on Sunday.

I could get used to this.

Off the court, the World Cup was a melting pot of the elite of the elite of South Africa ’ s sporting greats, sports administrators and visible political support.

It can ’ t be the last time we see the Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa engaged in netball activities. The national voice present this week from Minister Kodwa has without a doubt triggered the provincial heads and municipalities to deliver the President ’ s promise.

Seeing legendary sports administrator Ntambi Ravele with Sascoc CEO Nozipho Jafta flagged by SA greats Khotso Mokoena and Caster Semenya was encourage in the current era of athletes vs administrators.

There is a lot of work that needs to be done the Paris 2024 Olympics coming up.

I could get used to seeing the netball fraternity engaged more regularly in the build up to the next big championships.

It was an indeed a week of celebrations for Renault, who are intentional about making this a collaborative partnership more than just a sponsorship.

We have the world ’ s attention now, win or lose, we need to back each other and celebrate. That ’ s what being a Super Fan is all about.
