Renault SA - KZN Flood Relief Programme - May 2022

on the 11th of april 2022, kzn experienced the most catastrophic floods that destroyed homes, vehicles, and roads & infrastructure, leaving many destitute, and claiming the lives of 448 people, as reported. the enormity of this natural disaster is encapsulated by business insider (12 april 2022), claiming that it can be likened to kzn having had five months of rain in one day.

it is heart-wrenching to think how many people’s lives were adversely affected on a personal and business level with these torrential floods. it is particularly distressing that 551 schools were really badly impacted, which affects so many scholars and teachers alike.

Renault cares about the community at large, and, as such, set out to find a way to help some of the schools in dire need, especially within the smaller communities that had not been reached yet. we partnered with imoto media and ukhozi fm, to provide some means of assistance, identifying 10 severely affected schools. on the 13th of may 2022, as part of the kzn flood relief programme, we began with phase 1 of the handing over of school uniforms & shoes to 560 pupils and 100 food parcels to destitute families in marianhill & pinetown. our kzn dealers, kzn durban central and pinetown, were more than willing to lend a helping hand with the packing of and transportation of clothing & food parcels to schools & families alike. it was good to be joined by sharks player aphelele fassie too, who was only too eager to get involved in giving back.

together with our key partners, Renault will be carrying out phase 2 of the kzn flood relief programme within the next few weeks, reaching out to the communities in the south of durban we urge you to spare a thought for the people of kzn and continue the spirit of ubuntu wherever possible. as helen keller so graciously said, ”alone we can do so little; together we can do so much more”.
